Solutions

Build A Bus Home is offering solutions to some of the problems.

It is important work before us, and we want you to be part of the solutions.

We have described the rent affordability crisis, housing discrimination, and the 43% increase in homelessness in Thurston county over 2019. We have described the COVID-19 threat for our high-risk homeless neighbors.

Meeting Basic Needs

We are working toward building housing that is alternative, affordable, safe, and healthy by converting buses into homes for low income residents of Thurston county and creating a community of caring people to meet basic needs. We have the intention of starting this as soon as possible as housing needs are going to rise even higher.

However, our priority program for meeting basic needs is the Clean Up Bus & Shower Trailer (CUBSS) program which began in 2019. This has become even more important in 2020 as the COVID-19 virus crisis reached Thurston County in March 2020. See Hygiene Services

The CUB Shower Trailer is starting to deliver hygiene services to unsheltered and homeless in Thurston County.  It will serve encampments, mitigation sites and tiny home villages throughout the County by partnering with Cities, County government, faith communities and non-profits with an interest in serving homeless sites.

Providing these services will:

  1. Improve quality of life, health and self-esteem of these individuals
  2. Reduce demands on public and private services
  3. Improve health, job, income, housing and service outcomes

We are not alone in this problem, but we can ALL be part of the Solutions!

Building Homes from Surplus School Buses

One of our buses ready for construction.

Additionally, we are working toward building housing that is alternative, affordable, safe, and healthy by converting buses into homes for low income residents of Thurston county.

Affordable, healthy, and safe – YES, cost will be based on income or lack thereof, cost of living, and other factors to be determined. We will build the bus homes with community.

We are not alone in these problems, but we can ALL be part of the Solutions!

If you feel strongly about these issues, we urge you to get involved with our solutions, with Build A Bus Home. Many people just look the other way, but if you are reading this website you are not the type of person who does nothing if they can offer assistance in some way.

We want the community to thrive!

Cooperative Building

We are interested in working with instructors and students from classes already in place, such as drafting, welding, automotive, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing to name a few. The possibilities are endless.

Co-operative giving and learning opportunities are important to expand the students’ actual work experience in school. This will benefit them once they leave their school doors. Doing what they like to do, will allow for opportunities where the student will likely prosper in a career, and hopefully not become homeless.

We will work cooperatively with:

Tiny home builders ~ Bus builders ~ Trailer builders ~ Tow truck companies ~ Recycling & upcycing businesses ~ Secondary Schools ~ Church’s & Church organizations ~ Youth groups and organizations ~ Community leaders ~ Contractors ~ City governments, & municipalities ~ Suppliers ~ Carpenters ~ Plumbers ~ Electricians ~ Retired trades people, etc.

Are you someone who has time and talent and would like to lend a hand?
